ABOUT THE POSITION

The Communications Manager (CM) elevates EL Education ideas, practices, and impact to broader audiences through masterful storytelling and compelling thought leadership. From data to dialogue and from school successes to stances, the CM has a talent for identifying and sharing stories that resonate with diverse EL Education audiences across web, email, social media, print, and more. They have a pulse on the education landscape and a knack for cultivating relationships in person and online to help EL Education influence public education nationally, inspiring communities to join us in our effort to bring educational opportunity to all students. They report to the Associate Director of Communications and are a member of the Communications and Marketing Team.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Content Creation

  • Crafting original and compelling content for EL Education’s blog, website, email campaigns, social media, and print collateral.
  • Engaging educators and students in the EL Education network to co-create stories illustrating EL Education practices and impact.
  • Writing a diverse range of content including thought leadership content, blog content, and research reports and case studies. Tracking trending issues affecting public education and developing stances, messages, and talking points connecting EL Education concepts to relevant national dialogue.
  • Translating EL Education research and results into engaging stories for publication and promotion in case studies, reports, and communications campaigns.

Community Management

  • Helping to build and moderate loyal user communities on social media or other forums to serve as pipelines for stories, ambassadors, or customers. Communities could include EL Education teachers or alumni.
  • Leveraging relationships with education influencers and thought leaders to share EL Education ideas in broader communities, online and in person.
  • Crafting responses to inquiries and ideas from educators and families reaching out via email, social media, or through school and district partners.
  • Joining or creating dialogues in online communities, including contributing to relevant Twitter chats and commenting on popular education articles on behalf of EL Education. Curating existing EL Education resources and stories for inclusion in community-specific e-newsletters and social media group posts, including a monthly e-newsletter to users of the EL Education curriculum.
  • Identifying and engaging user community ambassadors and moderators to support their fellow community members and speak on behalf of EL Education.
  • Gathering community feedback and monitoring sentiment to drive responsive improvements in audience targeting, messaging, and EL Education products and services.

 

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to adapt to diverse audiences and communications channels
  • Expert familiarity with issues impacting public education
  • Experience with social media community management required
  • Experience in education is strongly preferred, potentially including existing relationships with educators, influencers, or an existing platform for communicating about education issues.
